I am the owner and artist behind Clay Maiden, a ceramic based studio in Tempe, AZ. I have been working with ceramic for over 15 years. It’s hard to remember a time when I wasn’t creating with clay.
My studio practice combines sculpture and mixed media to create modern 3D works of art. In my work I use the human figure, as well as iconography personal to me, to tell the story of a spirit having a human experience.
Large figures are built completely hollow from slabs of procelainous clay. They are thin and light, which allows the piece to move and change in the subsequent firings giving the medium a voice of its own in the final piece.
Small figures are hand sculpted and carved from the same clay.
